A Little Of The Desert With Silk Plants

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

After coming back from a business trip, I sat down and talked to my wife about things that occurred on the trip, which was not really exciting. It didn’t take that long to cover the subject except for the part about going through the desert. Fortunately, is wasn’t really hot and that made it very nice because I did stop just to get out and stretch my legs after sitting behind the steering wheel for about 4 hours.

I mentioned that the desert plants were looking very nice and, of course, having that rug-id look and personality that they have developed over time. We enjoy being out on the back patio and during the summer time having a few parties with our friends, so I mentioned that I wanted to have a few of those plants for adding a little desert to the décor. Not really sure of all the growing details, I said that we can get artificial ones and that way it won’t be some added maintenance to our full list of things to do anyway. There are several places online and we found one that had what is called “real touch” silk plants. Both of us have seen a few of them and we were really impressed by the realistic appearance and feel. A decision was made to get a few silk plants in different sizes just to give a little more realistic look and feel. The area we put them in doesn’t get a lot of sun so they should last for a few years without a big problem of fading. And it will add to our summer parties.

Using Silk Plants And Silk Flowers Outdoors

It is becoming an area where more and more people are using silk plants and silk flowers outdoors. There are many indoor/outdoor silk plants and are great for the entry area to an office building and a home as well. This can save lots of money over a period of time because of having to replant live bushes or topiary that dies. You won’t have to trim them or give them plant food or even worry about insects eating your plants.

The outdoor silk plants are made for the outdoors and will last several years but you can also use other silk flowers and silk plants outdoors when you have an area that doesn’t get much sunlight. You can purchase an UV protector and spray your silk plants to protect the color and this will most definitely preserve the color and will last a lot longer. Silk flowers are also a very popular alternative for those areas where wild life is present.

Changing The Silk Flora To Another Season

The season is changing and you want to show that change in your office or your living décor, so what do you do? Over a period of time you can purchase one or two silk flora arrangements that will fit another season or special time of the year that you enjoy; and at that time, you can store the other arrangement. It is not all that hard and it doesn’t take up that much room. Get a sturdy box so that you will be able to use it over an over again for each time you change your seasonal décor. Put the silk floral arrangements in a large trash bag and tie it shut so that it will keep the dust from collecting and you will have only a minimal amount of arranging when you pull it out.

If you are wanting to change the seasonal look in your dinning room or family room, you can move the existing artificial flower arrangement into another room if space allows instead of storing it away and at the same time it will give that other room a different look. The use of centerpiece silk floral arrangements can liven up any décor and they will last for many years with very low maintenance needed.

Silk Flora Talked About By Designers

I have wanted to find out what some of the home decorators or home designers are saying today about the use of silk flower arrangements and silk plants. Out of four designers, they all said that there was an overwhelming trend moving upward in the use of silk flower arrangements. All of them were also very pleased with the quality of silk flowers that are available for the making of silk flower arrangements even though the styles preferred did vary from one designer to another. One of the designers was quick to mention that the vast amount of colors that are available were fantastic and really went wild about the “Real Touch” flowers; and I can’t blame them.

One interesting fact that was stated by all of them was that the placement of greenery should be well represented in silk plants and silk trees. Having varied sizes and fullness for specific areas is a very important consideration for a properly decorated home. When the question was presented about trees and what types would be the best, they had their own favorites; but all said that the natural trunks really made a big difference in a realistic appearance. After finding out how strongly they feel about the use of silk flower arrangements, silk plants and silk trees, I would have a hard time justifying the use of live flora unless I had an unlimited amount of money and the vast amount of time that is needed to care for them.

Lighting Up The Dining Room Table For Easter

Easter is a bright and cheery holiday with all the ladies out in the bright colored Easter dresses and bonnets with flowers and ribbons. The children are looking forward to going out and finding the Easter eggs that you worked so hard to dye and hide. Yes, it is a great and busy day and you want a dinner that will match the rest of the day. First of all, you should set the mood with your dining room décor and that is not as hard to do as you might think.

All you need is some brightly colored flowers and a candle or two for the dining room table decorations. If you use live flora, the flowers will only last a few days and time and cost should be a consideration. I have seen a silk wreath used with a candle set in the middle, which was nice, and with some bright colored silk flowers. Another very a nice decoration was found in silk floral candleholders, which had a candle inside hurricane glass and again, brightly colored silk flowers setting a wonderful mood. Happy decorating and happy Easter!

Silk Floral Centerpieces Are Becoming Very Popular

We want our homes to be attractive and eye catching when entry is made and this involves colors, shapes and sizes of many different decorating items. Many times when an entry is made into a home, there is a smaller table in the foyer with a very nice flower centerpiece greeting the guest. As the guest makes their way into the living room, they will most likely find another flower arrangement with colors that will enhance other colors used in the room.

The eyes of the guest are digesting what they are seeing and if the décor was done right they are feeling very comfortable and relaxed in this room. More and more, these flower arrangements are being made of good quality silk flowers; and real flowers are being used less and less due to their life span. Silk floral centerpieces are done in different sizes and shapes and can be a very nice focal point that will last for several years keeping their shape and colors with very little maintenance.

Trouble With Runny Nose And Live Flora

Okay, here we are coming into spring and we see the signs of it all around us. The trees with their spring blooms and on the hillside we see some of the bright colored spring wild flowers coming to life. And oh yes, the tissue boxes are out and in reach of the millions of people with the spring running nose and itchy eyes. If you have not had that problem you are very lucky. Those that have it have a big problem at this time of year and so if any of your friends are in this group, please don’t send them any live flowers.

It is good to be thoughtful of your friends and relatives and send flowers at those special times to show your love towards them, but send a silk flower arrangement that they can enjoy being around. Yes. There are so many beautiful silk flower arrangements around that will say, “I’m thinking of you”, “you’re my special friend” or “I’m here for your support”. The silk flowers are very realistic and will last for many years while reminding your friends that you are thinking of them day in and day out. If your friends have plenty of flowers, maybe they could use some greenery. And just like the silk flower arrangements, there are some great silk plants with some beautiful greenery.

Here we come with my favorite time of the year! Spring is such a beautiful time of the year with the bright colors of newly blossoming flowers not to mention getting rid of the colder weather. Christmas and Thanksgiving time is good, so please don’t get me wrong. But I just like the spring air and the warmer time of year for getting out. The flower gardens are starting to bloom with the bright refreshing colors that bring joy to our hearts.

I take care of the outside in my small area of flowerbeds and that is just about all the time I have out of my busy schedule. In the home, we have several nice bright color spots of flowers but they are silk flowers, which require very little time for maintenance. I also have a silk tree, which is a flowering silk tree, and I have not picked up a dead flower off the floor in years. All of our silk plants and silk flower arrangements are in good shape and make our décor feel very relaxing and bright. If you have the need to refresh your décor you cannot go wrong with good quality silk plants or silk flowers.

Enjoy Your Plants Without the Hassle

My mother is getting to the point in an elderly person’s life when some seemingly simple tasks take on a Herculean level of difficulty and bother. It’s a bit funny, really. She doesn’t drive anymore, but she still gets dressed up for church each week and faithfully attends her Audubon Society meetings. Still, it’s up to me and my other siblings who still live in the area to take care of chores around her house.

She likes to keep her home furnished with plenty of potted plants, as they offset the white walls and make the house feel more inviting. Unfortunately, the task of pruning and picking up dead leaves from the floor often falls to me. That’s when I struck upon an ingenious plan: I would buy her a few silk flowering trees. Cleaning silk plants is a snap – there’s no trimming or bending down required.
